Hiya Pineapple chunks,
Bit of a different topic today. Some of you will prob read this and be like ‘eh?!’ but I couldn’t not post about this : )
I was tidying my bedroom the other day, and was trying to get together loads of chintz I had accumulated over the years to flog in my local boot fair. My gosh did I find so much stuff! It’s amazing how much one hoards you know! Anyway, I squealed with delight when I came across a selection of my old Polly Pocket’s that I used to play with when I was a little girl! Such a sweep of nostalgia swept over me; I can’t tell you how much these cuter than cute little compacts made me smile.
I was immediately transported back to my five year old self; a feisty, plucky little girl who spent literally hours in my room, enthralled with the world of Polly Pocket and her ginger friend Midge (yes she had a ginger friend!!!). Absolutely hilarious how long I spent playing with these bad boys!
With their pretty pastel shaded compacts and tiny little houses in all important miniature formation, Polly was a total phenomenon in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Little girls everywhere just loved her! She was even more popular than Barbie at one point. My friends and I would even put all our compacts together to make a Polly Pocket city! How cute.
Polly is still available today, but I don’t warm to her as much now. Firstly, she’s bigger, and she has real hair you can brush (huh?!) where as the vintage Polly was super small and was totally made completely from plastic. The compacts got more intricate as time went on, but I heart these retro versions that little bit more, and will definitely not be giving these to the boot fair!
You can find these all over eBay if you are interested dolls! I may have to have a sneaky look later!
Do you remember the legend that is Polly Pocket?
Lots of Love,
